Ensuring Safety and Confidence for Visitors, Staff, and Animals
At Wroxham Barns, the safety and well-being of our visitors, staff, and animals are our top priorities. That’s why we work closely with Kiwa inspections to maintain the highest standards in health, safety, and animal care.
Kiwa inspections provide reassurance and confidence to everyone who visits. Families can enjoy close contact with our animals knowing that strong measures are in place to protect both people and animals. This includes:
- Reducing the risk of illness
- Preventing accidents
- Ensuring animals are cared for responsibly
We are delighted to announce that we have successfully completed our 2026 Kiwa review and have been certified. This certification reflects our ongoing commitment to transparency, continuous improvement, and visitor safety, showing that creating a safe, enjoyable, and educational experience is always our priority.
Industry Standards: NFAN and the Code of Practice
We also follow guidance from the National Farm Attractions Network (NFAN), which worked closely with the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) and the Access to Farms partnership to develop an Industry Code of Practice (COP). This code provides clear, practical advice on how children and adults should safely interact with animals on farm parks.
The COP has been invaluable in helping us improve health and safety measures and ensure a safe environment for visitors and animals alike.
Animal Attraction Assured Certification
In February 2018, NFAN launched the Animal Attraction Assured certification scheme, developed with Kiwa Agri Food. This independently audited scheme:
- Raises awareness of industry standards
- Provides a robust framework for implementing the COP
- Helps businesses maintain high standards, lowering the risk of disease outbreaks and associated emotional or financial impacts
Participating in the scheme comes with multiple benefits:
- An audit visit, giving a fresh perspective to ensure standards are met
- A tool for business owners to evaluate their premises and management records
- A certificate and badge to display, signaling to visitors that the farm is safe and well-managed
- Recognition by insurers
Our Commitment to You
By following Kiwa inspections, the NFAN Code of Practice, and the Animal Attraction Assured scheme, we are committed to:
-
Maintaining the highest standards of animal care
-
Ensuring safe interactions for our visitors
-
Continuously improving our processes for the benefit of everyone who comes to our park
With our 2026 Kiwa certification completed, you can visit Wroxham Barns with confidence, knowing that we take your safety, your enjoyment, and the welfare of our animals seriously. Our goal is to create memorable experiences where families can learn, play, and interact safely with our animals.
Pregnancy & lambs
Depending on when you visit, we may have pregnant ewes and lambs. It is not advised that pregnant individuals visit the lambing area due to the risk of miscarriage. Expectant mothers who come into close contact with sheep during lambing may jeopardise their health as well as that of their unborn child, due to potential infections that can affect certain ewes.
These include chlamydiosis (enzootic abortion of ewes – EAE), toxoplasmosis and listeriosis.
Although reports of infections and human miscarriages linked to contact with sheep are quite rare, it is crucial for pregnant women to be informed about the potential risks.
If you decide to visit, we advise against going to the lambing area.
