Beer Writers' Guild Visit in the Norfolk Broads

Tim Hampson, Chairman of The Guild of Beer Writers (www.beerwriters.co.uk) and author of The Beer Book said: "We are committed to raising awareness of beer around the country and the importance of beer and brewing to the local economy. It is really encouraging to see small rural breweries like Uncle Stuart’s thriving, and adding to the vibrancy of Wroxham Barns, at a time when there is so much gloom and doom about the UK economy."
Over lunch the beer writers sampled Uncle Stuart’s Winter Ale and Wroxham Barns Bitter and Plisener plus Beeston Brewery’s Afternoon Delight. Chris Hyde, Wroxham Barns’ chef created a special menu, with Norfolk beers prominent in each dish. Braised topside of beef was cooked in Wroxham Barns Bitter and the vegetarian option, stuffed field mushrooms with red pepper and onions was topped with Welsh Rarebit using Uncle Stuart’s Winter Ale as an ingredient. Chocolate and Iceni Brewery porter brulée followed with Wroxham Barns caramel fudge made with Tipple’s Brewery stout to complement the coffee.
