Farm welcomes Norwich Elephant in the Norfolk Broads
Ian Russell, Wroxham Barns Director, bought Cammi (her stable name) for £3,400 at the elephant auction on Tuesday, September 23 that concluded the Go Elephants! project. The auction raised more than £200,000 for charities Born Free Foundation and CLIC Sargent.
Cammi is currently getting to know the calves in Junior Farm and is taking part in the daily bottle feeding sessions, but will be given the freedom of Wroxham Barns. She will explore the 18-hole mini adventure golf course and the children's fun fair and will no doubt stick her trunk into the shops and craft workshops.
Ian Russell said: "It is wonderful to have Cammi at Wroxham Barns. Go Elephants! was hugely successful and I am delighted that our visitors will be able to continue enjoying the elephant trail. We have our own interest in Africa, supporting the Send a Cow charity, so I was pleased to contribute to the Born Free Foundation."
Camouflagephant was one of two elephants sponsored by the Norwich 12, www.norwich12.co.uk, the UK's finest collection of heritage buildings. She was decorated by local community artist Tim Edwards and lived in St Julian’s Alley near the medieval Dragon Hall.
Wroxham Barns, open daily 10am to 5pm, is 10 miles from Norwich, take A1151 to Wroxham then follow brown and white tourist signs for 1.5miles on the Tunstead road, tel. 01603 783762.
