Director Ian Russell gets down to some serious scone tasting

Sue Williamson of Taverham - Winner of the Plain Scone Category

Mrs Nudd of Sprowston, Winner of the Cheese Scone Category
Keen cooks and budding bakers were queueing out of the door with their entries for Wroxham Barns’ first ever Scone Competition, which took place in October, as part of the Bidwells Norwich Food Festival.
Almost 40 entries were submitted, with Sue Williamson of Taverham the winner of the plain scone category and Mrs Nudd of Sprowston, winning first prize in the cheese scone category. Each won a meal for four at our new restaurant café.
Coming in second and third places in the plain scone category were Pamela Simkins of Swanton Morley and Val Goodrum of Sloley respectively. Second and third places in the cheese scone category went to Mrs Willis of Mundseley and Mr Swetman of Barton Turf.
Ian Russell, Director of Wroxham Barns and one of the judges, commended all the entries saying "We were so pleased with the amount of entries we had this year, and it was exceptionally difficult to choose the winners - the quality was so high. We will definitely be running the competition again next year, and, for the adventurous cooks out there, we will also be including a 'freestyle' category of scone - any flavour you like, sweet or savoury."
